ISCI (Industry Standard Coding Identification) was created to identify broadcast TV ads in 1970.

Ad-ID replaced ISCI in 2003.

ISCI was a mostly manual coding standard that required companies to develop workaround practices as the advertising supply chain became more complex and the industry moved to more automated workflows.

The 4A’s and ANA officially announced the withdrawal of ISCI in 2007. There is no longer a way to register an ISCI prefix or, therefore, create ISCI codes. Companies that are not using Ad-ID are simply creating their own proprietary codes and are not using the industry standard.
